Washington Youth Soccer Remembers Frank Hall

Frank Hall, a great servant of the game in Washington, recently passed away. Frank, a hall of fame recipient, was a larger than life figure in youth soccer for more than forty years, having been one of the early organizers of youth soccer in the state. He had an extraordinary commitment to youth soccer, both as an administrator and as a coach. He earned the respect and appreciation of thousands of families through several generations in Washington for his steadfast commitment to the game and, in particular, the players who made it possible. Frank has battled cancer for the past few years and was still helping to coach two young teams until earlier this month.

Frank Hall asked that there be no memorial service; however in true Frank Hall style he did agree that his many friends could celebrate his life. This will be held on Tuesday December 16th at Columbia Hall, 6794 Martin Way, Lacey, beginning at 1pm.  Beverages, food, including ice cream (Franks' treat for the kids) will be available.  All are welcome to pay tribute to one of Youth Soccer's greatest characters, supporters and influencers.

Congratulations to Philip Kelley

Philip will be recognized at the Washington Youth Soccer SoccerPalooza dinner on May 9th at the Hilton Seattle - Airport and Conference Center.

Philip, we are proud of you and your commitment to children and helping them improve and enjoy soccer.

Just wanted to express our gratitude for the soccer gear donations for children in the Layla House, Kidane Mihret and Sele Enat orphanages in Ethiopia.

Together there were over 160 soccer balls, 65 pairs of cleats and shinguards and at least 100 assorted shirts, jackets and sweatpants collected.  The first shipment (about 60 soccer balls and 25 pairs of shinguards and cleats) went over last week.

Swine Flu Safety Precautions

This year considerable media attention has been given to widespread cases of swine flu.  Novel H1N1 flu, popularly known as swine flu, is a respiratory infection caused by an influenza virus first recognized in spring 2009. The new virus, which is officially called swine influenza A (H1N1), contains genetic material from human, swine and avian flu viruses. Unlike typical swine flu, H1N1 flu spreads quickly and easily. In June 2009, when the infection's spread had been verified worldwide, the World Health Organization declared H1N1 flu a global pandemic.

Most cases of flu, including human swine flu, need no treatment other than symptom relief. If you have a chronic respiratory disease, your doctor may prescribe additional medication to decrease inflammation, open your airways and help clear lung secretions.

Sensible precautions:

  • Stay home if you're sick. If you do have swine flu, you can give it to others starting about 24 hours before you develop symptoms and ending about seven days later.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently. Use soap and water, or if they're unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Flu viruses can survive for two hours or longer on surfaces, such as doorknobs and countertops.
  • Avoid points of contact.  Do not share water bottles, snacks, clothing and cell phones.
  • Common cold or swine flu self assessment:

Blackhills FC coaches recommend you follow the precautions and advice of health care professionals.  Please take your health and nutrition seriously for the good of yourself and your team.
